Huge surprise on upcoming Q2 earnings based on Rx480 580 sales?

AMD graphics sale has been around 2.7-2.9mil per quarter. With the recent surge in cryptomining, RX470/480/570/580 will continue to sell out for the remaining of the quarter. As you remember, last bitcoin rush in 2013/14 resulted in over 5mils of GPU shipment. Current sellout situation seems to be more intense vs 2013/14.
Are we looking at Q3 '16 earnings jump that we saw with Nvidia? I remember those keplar gpus were selling out, commanding premiums like the rx470/480/570/580.
Any thoughts?

It always breaks my heart when someone buys a r9 290x in my computer shop but it's not for gaming...

I work in a computer store as a salesman and recently, the mining industry has grown up because everyone noticed the easy money you can do by just making your card(s) run 24/7. Personnally, I'm not a huge fan of that. I think it's not really worth it in the end because it breaks video cards, costs a lot of power and you have to payback your stuff but whatever, it's not what I want to discuss.
I mean, all these smexy boxes leaving and it's not even for playing games! 280xs, 290s, 290xs, all those! You could have a dream computer, playing on X monitors and it's just gonna go die in hell.
I guess it's just me that's being butthurt cause I'm waiting for an after market 290x but it still gets to me :3

Back to the Future: 2014 Bitcoin increase, market Crash, and GPUs flood the market.

Image a world, where Bitcoin hits a new ATH of 1,000 USD! A new coin emerged, Litecoin. Using a new Algorithm called SCRYPT which makes GPU mining profitable and a thing again!
The story starts in January 2014. AMD Just released it's newest GPU, the R9 290X in late Oct. this thing a monster of a GPU, extremely powerful! A GPU mining crazy has just hit the internet and waves of Tech people are making mining farms to mine Crypto. AMD GPU's are priced at premiums with 290's/290x's OOS or for sale upwards of $700, $200 over MSRP. Everyone is gulping up used AMD GPUs. Ebay is awash with GPUs selling over MRSP even used ones!
I was there, I started out mining Litecoin to Litecoinpool.org, I had 3 Rigs I slapped together in crate boxes. Mixature of 7970/7950/7850's and a single a 4 GPU R9 290x rig (over 1400w!!!) using AMD AM3+ Motherboards and CPU's running Windows 8. I even near the end had a 750ti Rig, the new Maxwell, efficiently mining SRCYPT. I'm glad i lived in WA at the time The electric bill wasn't bad at all maybe 200-300 a month. I lived in Ellensburg getting that sweet Wind farm Electric rate. I Remember this time as I struggling to learn mining, overclockings for mining, and rig stability. In the short period I did this February 2014 to May of 2014 I made 48 Litecoins. This was a fun period for me because I loved messing with the hardware and GPUs even made decent profits from selling used hardware because it became such a premium then. In the end I quit mining and sold all my hard around May/June. Then moved back to CA to live with my mom to help support her after she lost her job and couldn't find work. I sold off my entire small operation. In the end the Market crashed, MT GOX was hacked millions of Bitcoin lost, and SCRYPT ASICs were released. I stopped paying much attention to the crypto-sphere and just HODLed the small Bitcoin that I had traded from the Litecoin I earned. Bitcoin dropped down to $200 by the end of that year.
All in all I just want everyone to take in the fact that this exact, I repeat EXACT, thing has happened before in the long forgotten past of 2014. Yet everyone is making it out like its some crazy big deal? every crypto is still at high comparing to previous years, GPUs have declined in price because mining has died down, and ASICs are coming out for almost every Algo.
To those of you still mining, keep on my brother! If I had kept mining, or kept on eye on the crypto sphere rather than walking away like most are right now, I could mined Etherum back in the early days of 2015 and now could of been extremely well off. Now, that im in it again and this time with more foresight and readiness. I'm here to stay through this rough times. hopefully to come out to see the otherside. I Only started(again) in june 2017 so I was late for this "gold rush" but mark my words the massive "Gold rush" for crypto has yet to come...

New Build vs GPU + RAM upgrade? (i5-4670k + 290x)

Hi guys im thinking of upgrading my PC but im unsure if i should go with a new build from scratch or just upgrade to a more recent High-End GPU? This rig is used as a media center for gaming, movies, music, web browsing, etc, so no video editing or bitcoin mining or whatever.
Current build:
i5-4670k @ 4.4 Ghz
R9 290x @ 1200 Core / 1450 Memory
2x4Gb DDR3 RAM
ASRock Z87 Extreme 6
Seasonic Prime Platinum 750W
Win 7 x64 (duh)
Im thinking of upgrading to either a 1080 or 1080 TI (is the TI worth an extra 150€ over the standart one? Or maybe an AMD equivalent?) and either adding another 2x4Gb sticks or replacing the current ones with 2x8Gb sticks (Dual Channel vs Quad Channel?).
Or should i rather build a new i7/AMD equivalent DDR4 build from scratch?
I build this rig about 5 years ago so im completely out of the loop of whats "in" right now.
Budget can be stretched to ~ 1000€ if i save up a couple more months.
EDIT: Thanks to all of you, ill hold off on upgrading till the prices drop. I though it was strange that the 1070 ran for 600€+ when just a couple of months ago i bought one for my mate for just 350€.

Can I mine with what I have?

Hey all, I'm new to bitcoin. Right now I'm in college and I was looking at a bitcoin mining post on the sidebar. It takes into consideration the price of the setup and electricity. But since I'm in a dorm, I have my PC with me, and I pretty much only use my laptop, could I just let that run without paying a penny?
My specs for my PC are:
So since I won't be paying for any electricity to run it, can I actually mine with what I have?

Should I sell my GTX 770 and buy a used 290X?

Hey,
I have been having lots of trouble with my 770 lately... HUGE framerate drops in totally non-demanding games, things like that. For example, in Borderlands 2, i should be getting 90-ish FPS, but im getting like 4-15 FPS. Even on the lowest settings. Its been happening in every game that i own... its extremely frustrating.
I dont have viruses, ive checked like 50,000,000 times. Complete scans of every file on my PC... Nothing.
Specs:
i7-4770k
GTX 770 4gb
16gb RAM
I have no clue whats wrong...
SO, my question is: Should i sell my 770 and get an R9 290x with the money? It seems like that would be a huge upgrade from the 770, at relatively the same cost (From ebay). Now, i know that most of the AMD cards on ebay are there because of the Bitcoin mining thing, but im sure there would be a few that i could find that werent used as bitcoin slaves...
My other plan was to RMA this card and see if that solves the problem. If not, then I know something is wrong with whole PC...
Im so fed up with this card that I feel like switching to AMD sounds pretty good right now...
Also, any ideas on how to fix this issue? Even if i do fix it, i might still switch to the 290x...
Thanks in advance for all the help.

AMD GPU Supply Exhausted By Cryptocurrency Mining, AIBs Now Directly Advertising To Miners

This is an automatic summary, original reduced by 72%.
AMD Radeon RX 500 series graphics cards, particularly the RX 580 and 570, have been out of stock for weeks now owing to the cryptocurrency mining craze.
GPU mining has seen a massive resurgence over the past little while due to the rising popularity of ASIC resistent coins.
While some NVIDIA graphics cards do close the gap with their AMD counterparts in perf/watt at Etherium mining, their significantly higher initial cost make them far less profitable.
The mining craze hasn't just affected US based retailers, the phenomenon has gone global.
AMD GPUs of the day handily outperformed their NVIDIA counterparts and as a result AMD simply couldn't keep up with the demand and supplies of R9 290 and 290X cards dried up really quickly, driving prices up to insane levels.
If AMD decides to increase supply now it risks building up inventory that it can't sell later on if the mining craze fades out as quickly as it had come in.

[Discussion] Mining is it even worth it?

I often hear about people weary of purchasing used AMD cards because of the fear that they were left mining on end for months at a time. Are those people mining actually able to make a return before running their rig into the ground (or before they begin to cry over their electric bill). For arguments sake, let's say someone picks up 4 R9 290Xs

Theoretically how long would they need to leave those cards running before they even saw a return of their initial investment of $1919.96 assuming they were mining BitCoin or Dogecoin

How to fix crashes and low hash rate on my new scrypt rig?

I need help to get past two major problems in my scrypt mining machine (see my config at bottom).

1 problem is system crashes during mining, even with low hash rate

2 problem is the low hash rates. 280x running at 400 k/hs and R9 290 at 180-400 k/hs

So far I have tried mining on Windows 8.1, Litecoin BAMT Linux and SMOS Linux with much luck. On Windows 8.1 I have gone through tons of AMD Driver versions from 13.1, 13.11 beta v9.4, 14.1 beta, 13-12, and bunch of other versions. Even tried couple of DDU clean ups. I have also tried different iners like cgminer, bfgminer, etc. Note on windows 8.1 I can't see GPU temp either. However, the hangs and low hash rates persist. One of the main issues is I can't get around play around with miner settings due crashes.
On linux at least I can see GPU temps. But from my testing the system still hangs when running at 400 k/hs on my two R9 280x or 180 k/hs on R9 290. My setting for above on cgminer was (2x 280x and 1x 290 at the end):
cgminer.exe --scrypt -I 12,12,12 -shaders 2048,2048,2560 --auto-fan --target-temp 65
Here is my hardware config:
MSI Z77A-GD65 Motherboard(highly recommended on bitcoin.org board)
Intel Celeron G1620
Corsair RM 850W
G.SKILL 8 GB (4GB x 2)
Sapphire Radeon R9 280x
MSI Gaming R9 280x
XFX R9 290x R9-290A-ENFC
Anyone got any suggestions on what to try next? Seems like very hard to mine effectively, for me atleast...

Triple R9 290X XFire, Need advice on new CPU/Mobo combo, maybe RAM too.

So i built a PC for alt-coin mining last December. Fortunately, it paid itself off with Bitcoin earnings and I want to turn it into a gaming PC now. It works pretty damn good already (The Witcher 2 gets around 25-35fps in high density areas, 30-90fps in dungeons and such), but I want this system to be uber overkill for Witcher 3 etc. Right now, my most limiting factors I believe are the CPU/Mobo, and possibly RAM. So, here's the build as of right now;

So yea.. I have these hell-defying beastkiller video cards in a system with a super old school (but efficient for mining) processor. I don't care about CPU efficiency anymore, and want to beast the PC with a great CPU/Mobo combo for future-proofed gaming.
Also; it's worth noting, as I don't mine anymore, I have taken one of the GPU's out and am thinking of selling it. The PC will still be great as a futuregamer with 2x R9 290X's and an up to date CPU Mobo combo like i5 or i7, correct guys and gals? Also, the RAM.. I use straight Kingston 8gb atm, will that suffice for gaming, or should I get gaming specific/high intensity memory?

[Discussion] Convince me why I should or shouldn't play the waiting game for building a PC!

If you don't want to read my novel, read just the first and last paragraphs, please!
For maybe a year now, I've been planning on building a new PC from scratch. I set my rough build date for sometime later this summer, but now I'm getting caught up in the waiting game. There is always something better around the corner... the AMD 300 series, Skylake, Zen, etc.
My goal is to build something that will last me 3-4 years playing at 1080p, ~60FPS. However, if I could build something for a bit cheaper and simply upgrade it after 2 years or so, that's just as viable, but it complicates things a bit more. I could buy the Xeon E3 1231 v3 and be virtually guaranteed to have it last 4 years or more (although at risk of having it feel ancient by the time Intel is pushing out their 8000 series CPUs), or I could wait for Skylake and get an i3 (and the newest 1151 mobo) that is (hopefully) less than half the price and simply upgrade it to an i5 when things feel sluggish. But if Skylake doesn't perform significantly better than the Haswell Xeon, wouldn't I just be wasting money? And if DX12 drastically improves the gaming performance of all 6-8 core processors, will we see their prices rise, and will I be kicking myself for not taking advantage of purchasing an 8-core AMD processor that will cost me half of what an Intel 8-core costs?
I'm more aware that GPUs generally become obsolete more quickly than CPUs, so I'm already factoring in the inevitability that even a highish end GPU (a 970, 290 or 290x) would probably need to be upgraded within 2 years depending on trends in graphics/drivers. I toyed with the idea of planning to SLI/crossfire when I feel it's necessary, but after 2 years, odds are it'd be simpler, more efficient, and potentially more cost-effective to simply get an updated single GPU.
Toss in the potential for curveballs like bitcoin mining, rapid price falls in memory hardware (RAM or SSD), or simply some massive hardware improvement and you really won't know whether the same performance will cost you half or double the price a year down the line.
Bottom line is it's really hard to judge trends in gaming hardware, and the many different future scenarios makes me constantly second guess what I should do. Can anyone out there convince me of the best course of action? Should I postpone until Skylake/Zen, or just build now and hope that they don't make my PC feel prematurely obsolete?

Maybe soon to be ltc miner..

So, I've been slowly doing research here and there and it seems there are at of speculations of the difficulty going to a point where not many people with a basic rig will be able to profit. I've been thinking about purchasing 2 rigs. Each with 3 r9 290xs or 7970 amds. Which would put me at around 4-4.5mhs. A friend and I are doing this, as a way for us to make money if ltc ever does hit big as some people expect. And if not, oh well. We'll have 2 rigs with pretty good gpus to game our depression away. But does this community think that it's still worth it for us to start mining? We plan to increase our rigs if profit is sufficient (if and when ltc values go up). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Ltc seems to be the best option to mine atm, unless I have tens of thousands to spend on bitcoin mining. But at that point, if btc fails or something, we end up with a piece of hardware meant for btc and btc only.. But at least with scrypt mining, we end up with hardware that serves other purposes if all else fails.

[SG] Stable 2.6 MH/s Scrypt Mining Rig

Photo Gallery - http://imgur.com/a/z9Wka#0
Your looking at a complete scrypt mining rig which mines or creates altcoins. This mining rig will create cryptocurrency such as Litecoin, Dogecoin, and more.
Currently selling this mining rig at 2100 USD which is a lot less than what I paid for the entire thing brand new. It has been mining dogecoin/litecoin/etc for 3 weeks and it turns out after my electric bill + summer time coming soon it will not be profitable for me as I pay .14 cents a kilowatt.
The mining rig was restarted every Friday for basic dusting and maintenance and purs like a kitten. Price is negotiable depending on the drive your willing to make to Dallas TX (PM for Location). The rig has been in my garage and has always had temps of 76-78 or lower.
One thing about this setup is you don't have to do a thing but sign up for the pool you want, type in your username/pass and your mining within minutes. No Setup required as i've gotten the perfect settings for each card on the rig. I've also placed each card to get maximum airflow without pulling heat from neighboring cards, henced the 280x angled upward to pull cooler air.
It is also setup to automatically reboot and start mining on it's own in case of a power outage. I can also disable this feature as that is what I prefer to do. I like manually starting my rig once a week to make sure things are running flawless.
These cards have all been undervolted, overclocked, and set up to be the most efficient and fast at what they do. Stability is key with mining cryptocurrency and I can proudly say this 2.6 MH/s mining rig has run a week at a time before I manually restart it to dust it. You can choose to let it mine tirelessly for as long as you want but I recommend dusting it often. I'm sure this baby can mine for months without being touched.
All or most hardware has original boxes.
Complete Scrypt Mining Rig With Aluminum Frame + Box Fan:
GPU's:
This does not come with a keyboard, monitor, or a mouse. I run this thing headless and directly remote in using splashtop so I have control of my rig wherever i'm at using my macbook.
I am willing to ship the rig taken apart in 1 Huge Box with all original boxes inside + hardware if you pay the shipping. It will be carefully packed and sent via UPS, you can also add insurance which will also be paid by you.
You can also meet me or come take a look at the rig if your interested, i'm located in Dallas Tx. PM me for exact address and phone number if interested.
I will accept Chase Instant Pay, Dogecoin, Bitcoin, or Litecoin.
I will not sell the rig in parts it's buy all or nothing.
Note: As you can see I have two instances of SGminer running, the mining program I use. This is because I use different settings for the Sapphire 280x's and different intensity/thread concurrency settings for the R9 versions of the cards which are the 290x/270.

[Build Help] Choosing a graphics card upgrade

I have an original 7970 reference card, not the GHz model from PowerColor. It's time to change cards sadly. It's stock is 925/1325, however I user to be able to overclock 1125/1500 on air. I used to Bitcoin and eventually Litecoin mine with it when I wasn't using it. I started noticing some artifacting and have slowly been decreasing my overclocks; I am now at 1000/1375. I started looking at graphics cards as soon as I had to star clocking down. I decided on the 780 ti, and it was an spectacular improvement. So I put the 7970 in a dedicated rig to litecoin mine full-time until it eventually would die. However, after the Watch Dogs issues started to creep up with vRAM. I started to worry with consoles having access to potentially 6 GB of vRAM, would a day come soon that 3 GB in the 7970 and the 780 ti limit me before the actual graphics processor. I immediately returned my 780 ti while in my first 30 days and put the 7970 back in my gaming pc. After it was dedicated mining for 24 days, my overclocks are now down to 980/1325 to prevent artifacting. It really needs to be replaced. I started looking at the 295x2 and the Titan Black. obviously the 295x2 will perform better per dollar, but part of the switch from AMD to NVIDIA was a desire to buy the Shield 2 (if it comes out) for game streaming.
So, my question is, in light of Watch_Dogs need for a minimum of 3GB of vRAM just for the highest textures, and stuttering when you are around that amount and including the fact the consoles have access to a potential 6 GB of vRAM at any given time (meaning game developers may start being horribly inefficient with their vRAM sizes). Does the Titan Black seem like requirement to anyone else (if you are wanting NVIDIA)?
